Suzanne M. Hurley catches the reader's attention in this tale of three woman who struggle with their personal and generational problems as their lives intertwine within the walls of St. Peters High School in Hamilton, Ontario.
Jaime, a newcomer to St. Peters, struggles with an ailing mother at home and bullies at school. Chris, a teacher at the high school with a certain knack for attracting the "wrong men" and the impending heartbreaks, seeks the simplicity of happiness. Ivy, a counselor who has been at the school for decades, second-guesses her choice to retire after a heart attack that she has kept secret.
This is a mesmerizing tale of three very normal people as they work through the tribulations in their individual and collective lives but not without heartache, self searching and an ever-so-difficult willingness for acceptance and change.
It is quite easy to find oneself identifying with the plight of each of these women. True to life, the author captivates attention in this well-thought-out saga about dealing with those things for which we have no control...and realizing those things which we do.
The writing in this book is smooth flowing, easy reading and very thought provoking. More than once I found myself forgetting about anything but the words on the screen as I became a spectator in the background, heart aching during the sad times and joyous during the glad.
Ms. Hurley has a knack for creating a setting that is believable, noteworthy and memorable. Her ability to intertwine plot points and create a storyline that meshes together like a well-sewn quilt makes her writing one worthy of following.
I am very interested in seeing what the author writes next, for she has won over a new fan for life. Thank you for sharing your incredible imagination with the world.
