Author Biography

Patti Bonesteel lives in Baldwinsville, NY (outside of Syracuse), so yes she is a BIG SU fan.
Raising four daughters and teaching at the elementary level for 25 years helped guide her writing. She believes that children learn best while being entertained and using their imaginations to question and discover.
Her love of the outdoors and nature ( and pink flamingos on lawns) led her to write her first book, The Flamingo With Two Left Feet. She hopes you enjoy Fernando’s adventure.
She has more books on the way.

Patti Bonesteel's The Flamingo with Two Left Feet portrays the wonderful story of Fernando, a shy flamingo who simply wants to dance as beautifully as the other flamingos. Despite his mother's repeated encouragement to be patient and believe in himself, Fernando believes he is beneath the others. He sees himself as a clumsy and unlikable flamingo with little hope of being picked by another flamingo. After practicing a few dances away from the group, he finally has the bravery to dance in front of the flamingos but falls and embarrasses himself miserably. Will Fernando be able to overcome his fear enough to perform in the 'Dance on the Water' and find a mate?

The Flamingo with Two Left Feet is the story of Fernando's journey to self-confidence. Who hasn't had the same experience as this friendly bird? I liked how Fernando's insecurity was presented simply because readers can easily relate to him. Patti Bonesteel beautifully captures what every youngster has ever felt while growing up. I appreciated Fernando's mother's consistent support for him since it demonstrates how parents should always encourage their children to believe in themselves. I fell in love with the incredibly charming family that Fernando, Felicia, and their adorable youngster make; the lovely illustrations undoubtedly enhance the reading experience. The author includes wonderful information on flamingos at the end of the book, providing young readers with a great opportunity to learn about these lovely birds. This is an excellent picture book for both adults and children.

My favorite seven year had a bad day. I read this book to him that night and we talked about how Fernando felt. That talk opened up communication to talk about his challenges. Wonderful book indeed! Entertaining and educational. Opens doors to communication. Highly recommend!!!!!

What a sweet little story a bout a young flaming who has some insecurities about joining the other flamingos in a mating dance. With some encouragement from his mother, he learns that the best way to BE his best is to let his true colors shine!
The fun flamingo facts are an excellent way to get little ones asking more questions, wanting to dig a little deeper into the life of animals.
The bright colors, sweet story and fun facts are appealing to kids and adults of all ages.
I hear this author will be releasing more books in the future! Can’t wait to start collecting!

This book opens a world of possibilities. Children will find Fernando relatable and will discover that life isn't always what we dream it will be, and the world isn't always kind, but with persistence and a little support, you can triumph. It demonstrates that kindness is a trait more important than perfection and that being true to yourself will draw others to you that value you for the unique qualities you possess and can share with the world. An added bonus is the discovery of Flamingos themselves. It provides a great launching point for further investigation of this fascinating species - one that can be shared and enjoyed by both adults and youth. I highly recommend that readers of this book watch an online video of the Flamingo dance.

This lovely book shares the story of Fernando who, through trial and error and the support of his ever-encouraging mother, learns to dance in his own special way and find the perfect mate. The interaction between Fernando and his mother is sweet and comforting, and resonates with children of all ages. The flamingo facts at the end inflamed the curiosity of every child with whom I've shared this book, and led to fascinating discussions! This tale is told with the sure voice of a writer who knows what children need to hear. Looking forward to future stories from this insightful author. Bravo!

Lessons In Pink - Flamingo Pink, That Is!
So many little lessons packed into a story as colorful as the book’s illustrations! Just maybe that thing that we consider awkward will catch the caring eye of another. Intertwined with interesting flamingo facts that may be new to all readers - not just the young!
