Dr. James Brown, in his book Myself Healing, gives some very practical, insightful and helpful advice. He lists "Positive Aspiration Recitations" that are great guidelines for the reader to follow. Dr. Brown helps the reader better understand how to set goals and achieve those goals. Without the reader setting the proper expectations, one will never arrive at their destined goal. Using positive affirmations helps one to focus on what one should do to overcome hurdles rather than the negative “I can't” mindset. There is a great level of support concerning weight loss and how one can achieve these goals. The author reminds us that removing one's weight isn't a quick fix and rather a lifestyle change is necessary. Dr. Brown encourages the reader to better understand realistic expectations and ways of becoming a healthier individual.
One of the most amazing and helpful issues within the book is how to set and achieve small goals. Dr. Brown helps the reader to set achievable goals, thus giving the reader the encouragement of success and moving forward in the direction they desire. When the small goals are achieved, then another goal is set and met repeatedly until the final goals are achieved with positive results. The reader is encouraged to take each day one moment at a time that will lead then to a week, then to a month, a year, etc. Taking things one day and moment at a time allows achievable goals to be met and for the reader to learn how to become successful in short-term goals, thus resulting in long-term goals being met. This is a wonderful, encouraging and supportive book that I would personally recommend and give five stars.
